There was a dream,
A shadow that haunted me.
I run I crouch I scream
I was never heard
Every night it rose on my bedroom door.
I closed the door and waited for the sun, school, friends and laughter.
The nights grew longer and the shadow no less
Then one night,
I kept the door open, boundless courage calls
I step into the shadow
There is none
I venture into the hallway
I run I chase I scream
There is none
I’m in the dining
I’m into it deep I’m into it thick
I find a small white bulb, dangling from above
Peacefully lit
It dawns on me
It was never the shadow
It was the light
I run I crouch I scream
I was never heard
